VW’s Jetta BlueTDI: 60 MPG, 90% Emissions Reduction for NOx. VW’s ultra-low emission Jetta BlueTDI will be coming to the US mid-summer, according to an announcement made late last month at the Vienna Motor Symposium.This newer version of the Jetta will meet the strictest emissions standards in the world.

Since gasoline and oil prices are out-of-control, many people have turned to hydrogen generators for their cars to increase gas mileage and reduce emissions.

Conservationists in Kenya are opposing a multi-million dollar biofuels project citing threats to bird life abundant in a riverine delta area. The 50,000 acre sugar cane project was meant to provide raw cane for a giant sugar milling company too but it is believed its vision was more for biofuel than food.

Though it may seem like a shocking idea, high fuel prices may actually have some benefits for our society as a whole. This is because high gasoline prices have turned many individuals off of SUVs and other cars that require a lot of gas. Also, in many cases individuals are also choosing to ride public transportation, which in the long run would also decrease carbon emissions.

Not all biofuels are created equal, as the chart above illustrates (click the image to see full size). It’s one of the best depictions I’ve seen of how each biofuel feedstock has completely different impacts on overall greenhouse gas emissions, water and pesticide use, and the energy required to produce the fuel.

Homemade ethanol guru Floyd S. Butterfield and Silicon Valley entrepreneur and innovator Thomas J. Quinn want to see you making ethanol in your backyard. Their creation, called the E-Fuel 100 MicroFueler, is a stacked washer-dryer sized reactor that can convert sugar into ethanol for (they claim) $1.00 per gallon.
