There’s no doubt that growing corn-based ethanol has some serious problems: dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, controversy over increasing food prices, and questionable energy return. But how does the impact of ethanol production compare to not doing anything?

Ethanol is just as bad as oil
MIT and other groups not linked with the oil or farming industry have pointed out just how bad Ethanol is for the world. This argument - it sucks less than oil - is pretty stupid when you consider that the same land growing foodstuff could grow food or soybeans that could be used for both food and biodeisel, which has a much higher energy content.
