In the race to implement new energy source, farms have an advantage: lots of manure. A large chicken farm north of Beijing is taking advantage of this fact by using its chicken manure to generate power and heat. But this isn’t just a small-time farm—the 3 million chickens on the farm produce 220 tons of manure and 170 tons of wastewater each day.

factory farming bad for environment, public health and animals
Even if the manure is being used for energy, there are still countless reasons why factory farming, especially in a country like China that has few animal, safety, and environmental regulations, is a bad idea. Poultry factory farming in China and throughout Asia has lead to the spread of bird flu and will continue to do so as farms intensify. Poultry should only be raised if the animals are truly pasture-raised, as sun exposure kills bacteria and viruses.
