Wal-Mart's customers want these low prices - in the US, they also want less pollution, so Wal-Mart is changing its entire fleet - the largest shipping fleet in the world - to more sustainable hybrids, and is ahead of Target with regard to greening practices in its stores.
We could enlist Wal-Mart rather than just criticizing them - if they could persuade their customers to buy things like the cheaper Wal-Mart brand of CFL, and actually make these products and practices available to lower income markets, we would make a large dent in our climate change problem. This is the world's largest retailer, and once enlisted, they could put pressure on their suppliers to likewise go greener....
