On October 10th, Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and Avon Mattison, founder of the United Nations 30 Days of Peace program, will host a benefit at the Stephan Weiss Studio to raise funds for the Gandhi Tour in 2008, speading the message of peace and non-violence through music and dance.
Inspired by the life of Mahatma Gandhi, and with the backing of Dr. Arun
Gandhi, The Gandhi Tour is a global music festival intended to spread the
philosophy of non-violence and multi-cultural understanding through music, art
and media. The tour, which will launch globally in 2008, will feature both
internationally renowned performers and regional acts known for helping to
spread the message of enlightened human understanding; give humanitarian
support to host cities through partnerships with local charitable
organizations; and provide a platform for influential speakers to pass on
Gandhi’s non-violent approach to conflict resolution. The Gandhi Tour is
produced by the Gandhi Group in conjunction with the non-profit foundation
Tribes of the World.
The Gandhi Tour Benefit will take place on the last day of the United Nations
30 Days of Peace, and will be MCed by its founder, Avon Mattison. The schedule
for the evening includes a VIP “Mahatma†meet and greet with Dr. Gandhi from
6pm to 7pm. Doors open to the public at 7pm, and the evening’s program
includes a keynote address by Dr. Gandhi; rarely seen footage from Mahatma
Gandhi about the need for peaceful solutions to conflict; and a live
performance by the internationally renowned yogic chanter and musician Krishna
Das. Featured acts also include Tobias Huber’s world music fusion band
1001Ways (direct from Switzerland and presenting their multimedia program,
“Gandhiâ€) and didgeridoo player Wayne Warwick Williams. Hors d’oeuvres and
cocktails will be provided throughout. An on-going silent auction of donated
products and services will be held during the event, with corporate donations
provided by ABC Home and AquaMantra. Advance tickets can be ordered on line
