Why do electric cars look like spaceships?

Why do automakers insist on creating interiors that look like Next Generation-era Star Trek shuttles? I half expect Wesley Crusher to show up in the spy photos, all decked out in his Starfleet uniform, ready to invade some planet of hapless aliens.
