Palm oil warning

I recently heard that the price of palm oil has better than doubled in the last year. According to the report this is due to bio fuels (same as corn prices rising due to ethanol). In the past most palm oil was used in the candy industry and secondarily as a regular food product. With bio fuels driving the price of the palm oil up, candy and other foods may go up as much as 30%. This will not cause much of a problem here in the US as our % income going to food is about 2%. In many countries it is 60%-this is where the palm oil prices will be felt. So our hunger for bio fuels is actually going to hurt other countries. That is unless we can curb our appetit for candy and then for petroleum based fuels.
