If companies are replacing their office furniture, they should be considering what will happen when the new furniture needs replacing. Redundant office furniture is a growing problem, however one company's solution is to give a recycling guarantee, which also provides real cost savings for a company.  Â

Green Office Furniture
Green Office Systems re-manufactures Steelcase, Herman Miller and Knoll Morrison. I think they do mostly the New York City area, but I've heard they picked up some national accounts (shipping freight and rail from NYC to be as green as possible). They are using all sustainable fabrics, lo/no VOC glues, not sure about their paint...anyway, they look like their actually doing something different and unique.
This is a good idea but I

This is a good idea but I agree with Lindsay, some companies are always getting new furniture the second a desk gets a scratch. It’s such a waste of resources and money. I hope as the world governments become more and more focused on recycling and being eco-friendly companies will be advised to make the most of what they have for as long as they can. But as has been said, advertising is causing this obsession with ‘must have new furniture syndrome’. Most of my bedroom furniture http://mommyhoodandme.com/2008/09/16/my-mom-and-her-furniture-frenzy/ I’ve had for about 30 years now. I once worked for a company that was buying a huge range of new flash furniture, but I refused and wanted to keep the original furniture.
Greener office furniture choices...

Or even better, don't replace it unless you need to! I just wrote about this same issue today, on my blog at recycledbusiness.blogspot.com.
We are so used to new, new, new, all thanks to the power of advertising, that we seldom stop to think "Do I need new? Is there something really wrong with what I have?" It's hard to break free from that.
And when it comes to businesses, the public has come to equate "looks new" with "knows what they're doing." How can we correct that? Or can we?
