Virgin Atlantic announced today that they will run their first bio-diesel flight in February by flying a Boeing 747 from London to Amsterdam.The flight, which will have no passengers on board, will be used for research into the viability of using bio-fuels across their fleet, and although no details have yet been given,Virgin state that the bio-diesel used is not competing with food stocks.Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, said: "This breakthrough will help Virgin Atlantic to fly its planes using clean fuel sooner than expected. The demonstration flight next month will give us crucial knowledge that we can use to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint. Virgin Group pledged to invest all its profits from its transportation companies towards developing clean energy and with this breakthrough we are well down the path toachieving our goals."
