But does it help that you can get you work done faster and more efficiently with the newer model? Then you don't have to spend as much time on the computer thereby saving energy? Ok, or as in my case I get finished earlier then I can come over to Hugg earlier?

Computers are very similar to cars - keep them maintained and they'll go on forever. I'm a recent open-source (Ubuntu Linux) convert so I try to convince my co-workers that their old computers can be just as useful running Linux now, as they were when they ran Windows a few years back :)

Good point that making a new computer is uses much more energy than running one, so it makes sense to keep your old equipment running as long as possible, and not feel pressured to upgrade just because a new operating system is available or there's a good sale at the electronics store.
