Since death is a natural part of the cycle of life, it seems fitting that some people are seeking a natural way of celebrating the end. They are foregoing most of the hype and high expense that is typically associated with an elaborate burial ceremony and turning instead to eco-friendly funerals, which are simple funerals that are done without embalming fluids, markers and metal caskets in order to let the body decompose naturally.
Green Burial
There are very few places where you can have a green funeral in America. Although the UK has more that 250 woodland cemeteries, the US has at most 25. In order to have a green burial, you must plan ahead, not just tell someone that is what you want. Finding a green cemetery today is the as difficult as it was to find organic produce 30 years ago. Now is the time to start asking a round and advocate your local cemetery or government office of sustainability to consider supporting, starting or transitioning to a green cemetery.
