55 MPG isn’t good enough for you? Then try adding a plug to your hybrid.
The electric-car company ZAP, in conjunction with Hybrids Plus, has announced it will offer $24,000 plug-in hybrid conversions for the Toyota Prius and the Ford Escape Hybrid.
As un-economical as it gets....
Lets do the math. 30K for the car, another 24K for the conversion is 54K for the vehicle. If the car lasts for 10 years and it averages 12,000 miles a year, its going to cost about 60 cents/mile at minimum (45 initial costs, 10 cents a mile for electric, 15 cents for maint and upkeep). A thrifty small car will cost about half that over its lifespan.
To be green means more than driving a battery powered car; it means that you have an economical solution that is affordable and practical.
