In the desert of Sahara, in North Africa, a solar farm has been built. The area is slightly smaller than Wales but some scientists said yesterday that it could one day generate enough solar power to supply all of Europe with clean electricity.

I am dealing with true inventions every day. I am also seeing a lot of hoaxes in my daily quest to alternative energy. I have learned that energy is not free, perpetual motion machines do not exist, everything is taken from somewhere and put elsewhere. There also is this so-called “free energy”, the zero-point energy, proven mathematically by many scientists.

Have your every drove your car on “fumes”? They’re gas vapors that form when it evaporates. One man, John Weston, from Charlottle County, FL, has found these fumes useful and made a fueling system out of them so his car gets an incredible mileage: 463 miles per gallon! In European measurements (if I’m correct) this is 0.8L/100km!!! Wow! Not even VW’s latest gadget car can’t get this mileage!

The first time we wrote about these inventions was about 6 months ago. Now, MDI and Angelo DiPietro have contracts all over the world with auto makers to sell them the compressed air technology so automakers do what they do best: cars.

You drink. You dance. You generate power. All the shaking-for-nothing floors of London’s nightclubs are one step behind the city’s most eco-friendly nightclub. San Francisco has got one, and so does Rotterdam. Basically, the whole idea behind this concept is to generate electricity from the shaking dance floor, electricity which would largely power the dancers’ music and lights. It’s like “pedal for electricity”, but more fun.

Did you know that Israel has 90% of the population heating their water from the sun? This has happened because of the 1950 energy crisis, fact that led them into buying solar water heaters. In 1983, about 60% of the Israelis had solar water heating.

Today I stumbled upon a web site made by a guy (he’s an astronomer) who did his own very cheap solar panel. He has a remote property in Arizona and there isn’t any power source, so he had to improvise it by himself.

Treehugger presented in February a story about a wave powered boat and its sailor (Heinichi Horie), who had the guts to go from Honolulu to Japan on a 4,800 miles trip, with a boat powered solely by the waves. Today he finished his trip, according to Associated Press.

Francis Farley, an experimental physicist (I like them much more than the theoreticians), has invented the “Anaconda” wave powered device. It can mainly be described as a large distensible tube, made out of rubber, closed at both ends and filled with water. The Anaconda tube is designed to be anchored just below the sea’s surface, with one of its ends facing the oncoming waves.

Sanyo has opened a inverted ark shaped facility covered all over with solar panels. In the 315m wide and 37m tall facility there’s a Solar Lab built - it’s a museum of solar energy with hands-on exhibits and unique outdoor light shows. Its purpose is to promote the goal of living in a clean energy society, and its method is to provide a fun experience that imprints the importance of solar on visitors.

A new catalyst has been developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory. It can reduce the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions diesel engines from 90%-95%. Integrated Fuel Technologies, Inc. (IFT), a Washington State start-up company with offices in Spokane and Kirkland, has been licensed to produce it.
