Taken Action: Science Abused at the EPA: how you can help
This is a Union of Concerned Scientists "take action" alert, meant to speak up for EPA scientists (You can also sign up for their email newsletter):

Wild bird species: The mallard - Birds - Helium - by Lindsey Feldman
(Excerpt): I wrote a funny anecdote about the wild ducks in my town and my experiences feeding them. One reason I wrote this was because I have looked in vain to find websites devoted to mallards, which simply appreciate ducks for being ducks. Many websites are devoted to the hunting and eating of ducks. I think it's important to learn to appreciate other species in order to expand our awareness of the natural world, which all too often, we humans take for granted and consider ourselves separate from.

The Recent USDA Beef Recall and Its Implications for the Future of Consumer Safety
The Recent USDA Beef Recall and Why It Should Matter to the Future of American Consumerism. Recently, the US government called for the recall of the largest amount of beef in U.S. history. To me, this issue is important because industrial-style factory farming is a very environmentally-destructive modern practice. Not only is it posing a huge problem for open space conservation and preservation of natural resources out in the American countryside, but it is obviously a food safety / consumer issue as well. Take a look at the articles here and submit your own / let me know what you think.

Debate: Modern homes have grown too large: from a sustainability aspect
This links to my debate submission in response to whether or not homes are becoming too large in America. I sought to put a sustainability spin on the issue by pointing out how modern americans are chasing wealth and luxury and losing perspective as they complicate their lives for status symbols. There are other entries too on the "no" side. Please send me criticism and tips.

Debate: Do individual consumer choices make a difference in creating a more sustainable society?
Back in December of 2007, I came across a news article. Norway was announcing it was going to invest millions of dollars in the effort to preserve rainforests. Try as I might I couldn't quite figure out exactly what their plan was, and I wondered if this was just another politically-correct public relations campaign by another industrialized country trying to look worldly and sophisticated.I can't help thinking it's pretty sad that governments feel the need to spend enormous amounts of tax money on preserving the environment, while corporations seem to have free reign to exploit it.
