
A year ago, the city of Paris launched a bike sharing program to help cut their carbon footprint. The program has been a huge success with thousands of people renting bikes for a few hours at a time. Paris now wants to copy that success, but with electric cars this time, helping citizens and tourists reduce their carbon footprint and fight global warming.



Senator John McCain, the Republican presidential nominee, said that if elected he would introduce a $300 million prize for the automaker that develops a battery that ‘leapfrogs’ commercially available hybrid or plug-in cars. The new battery would be a big step in fighting global warming as it would help bring to market a technology that would allow drivers to drastically cut their carbon footprint.
In the run up to this summer’s Olympic Games, the city government of Beijing is appealing to its citizens to use green transport as part of their ‘civic’ duty.
