Are Wal-Mart Executives masters of green washing or green innovation? At CES, the company is calling for federal legislation for green electronics standards and said they will implement a national electronics recycling program. So, is this for real?

Last week I blogged about CES going green, with several environmental initiatives including using some environmentally friendly carpeting, purchasing of carbon credits, etc. ecochick was impressed. However, the reality is fairly different than the hype. For example, in wandering around the halls, I did not lay eyes on one recycling bin. 

Consumer electronics reflect a sensitivity to the attitudes of modern consumers of course. But there are indications outside of Vegas that the CES orchestrations are the tip of an iceberg of awareness that technology – which by its nature resonates with the notion of efficiency – can cut a lot of its own energy and resource waste simply by more thoughtful design.
