Earth Hour 2008

Well, this year has produced some amazing results! I thought last year was impressive, but this year the number of searches smashed 2007, with almost 8 times more searches in 2008.

In what is perhaps the most widely-anticipated Earth Hour event, people across the world are getting ready to tune out of the grid and tune into their environment. One way to spend the self-imposed blackout is to simply look up; overcrowded city streets and light pollution often mean we miss (and frequently forget) how truly brilliant our night sky can be.

The Google home page is "blacked out" as they have "turned out the lights" as symbol to raise awareness for Earth Hour 2008.  It's quite striking to see the normally white background on the Google home page suddenly go black.  While its not saving any energy doing this, it certainly is going to raise a lot of awareness to everyone that goes to Google to do a search.

Tomorrow night at 8:00h turn off your lights for one hour. Get as many people as you can to do the same. Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement.
