So the hiatus is over, I’m back to my blogging ways. I return back to my computer to find that…. nothing has changed. Well, that isn’t exactly true but I really had big hopes for this summer’s G8 meeting. So I thought today I would give a bit of a “wrap up” to the end of the G8 summit on climate change mixed in with a small little rant.
The G8 countries have endorsed bringing down the global greenhouse gas emissions by fifty per cent by the year 2050, however they did not specify a base year for emission cuts.
Junichi Sato is not only a whale activist in Japan (and there ain't many people who can put THAT on their business card), he's also a blogger. And he's been arrested for the crime of exposing the truth.AFP reported "Sato, writing on his blog shortly before his arrest, appealed for a continued probe into the alleged whale meat embezzlement. "I just want to appeal to the hearts of people involved in the whale embezzlement case: 'Do you think it's alright to remain silent?'" Sato wrote.
As oil prices continue to soar, the energy ministers of the G8 group of rich countries are meeting today in Japan to discuss how to deal with the urgent energy crisis. Saldy, more focus on increasing oil production than cutting its use.
