Nothing could be as much a mirror of poor people’s food plight today as Thai farmers reportedly conducting armed vigils in their rice fields at night to prevent thieves from reaping the crop.

Not to long ago we thought that biofuels would be a good way to reduce global warming by cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In reality, biofuels could actually increase GHG emissions if we consider their effects over their entire life cycle. In a study by the University of Edinburgh, their impact has even been quantified: biofuels could increase GHGs by 50 to 70%.

So I know there has been allot of talk about grain shortage and rising food cost in the news lately so I thought today would be a great day to talk about how your diet can help the environment. World Vision is having an extreme shortage of food due to rising cost and will have cut 1.5 million people from their roster of 7.5 million they fed last year, one-third of them are children who rely on the organization’s aid to survive. Quite a startling statistic!
