Although Obama didn't follow the McCain-Clinton gas tax pandering, he is emphasizing his commitment to coal production, in an apparent attempt to gain votes for the primary and general election in coal states like Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.  Of course coal is still necessary for our power supply, but it is still one of the biggest greenhouse gas polluters, and Obama has continuously highlighted his green credentials.
