Impressive green architecture!

City officials just passed legislation which would require all new single family homes built in Montgomery county to meet the federal energy efficiency standards known as Energy Star. Do you agree or disagree with this type of legislation and why?

This building will be the first that will generate power in order to be assembled. The power will be acquired with the help of a solar roof which, of course, is going to be assembled first.

The United Arab Emirates has begun building what it calls the world's first zero-carbon city. The city will be powered mainly by solar energy and recycling waste and water. The UAE currently has the world's largest ecological footprint per capita.

No disrespect to the architect and ower of this home. It is truly inspiring. This home was handcrafted using natural materials including spare and reclaimed wood, limestone, and reusable windows, doors, plumbing etc. Dug into a hillside for low impact, the house features a mud/turf roof, a fridge cooled by underground water and uses biomass for heat. Wow.

ABC's popular home makover show, Extreme makeover: Home Edition, will air their first green makeover this Sunday at 8pm EST. Led by Doyle Custom Homes and the Building Industry Association of Washington , the green remodeling project takes on a 100 year old Seattle area home that was plagued with lead paint, asbestos tiles and rotting floor joists.

We might assume transport is the biggest problem facing us as we try to bring carbon emissions under control. In fact, buildings account for more, using almost half of the US' energy use on heating, cooling, and ventilation. This article describes the problem, and describes a brand new school building that offers a viable alternative.
