Residents of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho are outpacing the national average decline in gas consumption, according to a new report by the Sightline Instutute. In the last 8 years, residents of these states have cut back by about a gallon per week, for a total gas consumption reduction of 11%. In the Pacific Northwest, gas usage has fallen to its lowest level since 1966, while CO2 emissions from gasoline have fallen by six-tenths of a ton per capita since 1999.

Algae has been making the news a lot lately, and is a fairly new topic in environmental circles.
Let's take a step back for a moment and talk about why algae is interesting and important.
This house is being built Michael Rea in affiliation with Duncan Price on Britain’s most northerly island of Unst, which will bring obvious benefits to the environment. The carbon neutral home lowers the carbon footprint by producing its own energy and storing it to heat the home.

A North American organization of energy experts issued a report that found that building more green buildings is the best way to cut carbon dioxide. In fact, green buildings could cut emissions more deeply, quickly and more cheaply than any other global warming mitigation effort.

The B.C. government introduced North America's first full-fledged carbon tax yesterday, an attempt to engineer a social movement aimed at getting British Columbians to cut their greenhouse-gas emissions.
According to the New York Times, sequestering C02 from coal may not be as easy as people hope. Burying just 10 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted over a year from coal-fire plants at current rates would require moving volumes of compressed carbon dioxide greater than the total annual flow of oil worldwide
Joking apart there is a strong environmental argument for cow genocide. Cows and other livestock are probably the most significant threat to our environment today.
We need to cut our dependence on cattle drastically if our civilization is to survive in any semblance of its present form.

“The final combination of paper choices recommended to the client represented a 10% cost savings, 13% fewer carbon dioxide emissions, and 35% fewer trees when compared to their previous product,” says Nancy E. Landrum of Sustainable Business Design.

The Home Builders Association of Northern California will cut energy use by 50 percent, compared with 1990 levels, and plans to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions associated with those homes by 30 percent by 2020.
A research team from Sandia National Laboratories is trying to reverse the combustion process and turn carbon dioxide into liquid fuel.
The process works something like this: concentrated solar power from a giant solar furnace is used to superheat a set of catalytic cobalt ferrite rings that, once activated, literally rip carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules apart.

As of Jan. 1, 2011, air-conditioning systems for all new European-made vehicles must begin the switch to a refrigerant other than the current formulation, known as R134a - a mix that has 1410 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide.

Emissions of greenhouse gases will rise by 57 percent by 2030 compared to current levels, leading to a rise in Earth's surface temperature of at least three degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit), the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday.

Australia is the developed world's biggest greenhouse polluter, with average emissions of 26 tonnes of carbon dioxide a person, according to new United Nations report.
My friend and I recently coded this widget, CO2Stats, for monitoring CO2 emissions due to web traffic. Our calculation is based upon the net emissions due to client computer electricity consumption summed over all the visiting clients to a website, taking into account the amount of time they spend on that site. Many blogs and web sites display hit counters and we hope that this will be a great way for webmasters and bloggers to promote environmental awareness. We would appreciate any adoption and Huggs you all can offer!
