It is hard to reconcile the image of the pristine, snow covered, wind-swept crags of the mountaineer’s ultimate challenge with that of a rubbish tip, but that is grave concern right now.

Leading environmental and sustainability experts from around the world have descended on San Francisco for the Ecocity World Summit. The four day long conference is bringing together architects, urban planners, academics, scientists, public officials and others to talk about strategies and solutions for rethinking the role of cites in the fight against climate change.

World leaders are becoming fixated on climate change. That's good news. But agreeing with one another about who will do what to slow the warming of the planet won't be easy. The answer is difficult but simple – sit down and get started
