Baltic Sea "Dying" from Lack of Oxygen
Global warming a threat to sea life, study says: So-called 'dead zones' are expanding as oceans
Low-oxygen zones where sea life is threatened or cannot survive are growing as the oceans are heated by global warming, a new study warns.
Mulch Ado About Something
Cypress mulch is a popular choice for many gardeners, but people should know that their choice can harm Florida's wetlands, the Gulf of Mexico and our coastal environment in general.

Harnessing the Power of Waves in the Gulf of Mexico
The device, dubbed the Seadog, is designed to capture ocean-wave energy from swells or waves to pump seawater into storage tanks. The water then could flow through hydroelectric turbines to provide energy.
Gulf dead zone to be biggest ever
This year could see the biggest "dead zone" since records began form in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The dead zone is an area of water virtually devoid of oxygen which cannot support marine life. It is caused by nutrients such as fertilisers flowing into the Gulf, stimulating the growth of algae which absorbs the available oxygen. The volume of nutrients flowing down rivers such as the Mississippi into the Gulf has tripled over the last 50 years.
