Engineers at GM have made reccomendations that all cars should have gas mileage displays.

Yes, 60 MPG from a turbodiesel production car that will be available in the US in 2009. For someone who doesn't even like carbon fuels, this is pretty amazing.

THe new 2009 Jetta TDI from VW will have a turbodiesel engine, will meet th etoghest US emissions standards and will get 60 MPG.

VW’s ultra-low emission Jetta BlueTDI will be coming to the US mid-summer, according to an announcement made late last month at the Vienna Motor Symposium.This newer version of the Jetta will meet the strictest emissions standards in the world.

In looking at data from the last several summers, the price of gasoline has gone up, on average, over 15% from now through the summer's peak. Based on today's price of $3.53, this would put us above $4 gas this summer.

If you haven’ heard of the Motorhead Messiah, Jonathan Goodwin, let me introduce you: he hacks cars for a living, and he can get 60 mpg out of an H3 Hummer while doubling the horsepower and cutting emissions in half. Unbelievable? Yes, but this is no joke, and it’s doesn’t defy the laws of physics either. The hacked H3 is a hybrid with the gasoline fuel system removed. In its place, Goodwin installed a biodiesel-burning jet turbine to recharge the electrical system.

Supposedly, the much anticipated ratcheting up of car fuel efficiency standards will force more people to downsize their rides and purchase more fuel-efficient cars. I don't buy it.
