The UK Crown Estate, which owns the UK seabed, has announced its 3rd round of offshore wind leasing programs, hoping to have 25 gigawatts of new windfarm sites up and running by 2020. This means, with current technologies, that we can expect an additional 7,000 turbines to be spinning in the waters surrounding the UK in under 12 years.
