Mow Down Pollution is the Clean Air Foundation's annual campaign that encourages Canadians to turn in their old and busted lawn mowers. Over the past seven years, they've retired 18,000 gas lawnmowers and trimmers, resulting in the reduction of 406 tonnes of greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions.

Some interesting facts:

Growing Green & Franchising
Clean Air Lawn Care began with 30 customers in CO in 2006 and in 1 year has grown to over 300 customers nationwide. With a proven business model and a goal to change the way America mows the lawn, reducing emissions nationwide, the business is now franchising and looking for those that are part businessperson & part tree-hugger to get involved!

Fueled By Cancer Fears, Organic Lawn Care Grows
More homeowners are turning to natural yards, as the industry matures, learns and expands. Studies have found that people exposed to pesticides had a 70 percent higher incidence of Parkinson ’s disease, while golf course superintendents have high cancer rates. Now, there are many more options for homeowners to go organic gradually.

Neighbors, Even Spouses Clash Over Organic Vs. Chemical Lawns
In Canada, communities can legally restrict lawn chemicals on private property. Because of industry lobbying, most states don’t allow such laws in the U.S. However, the fight over how to manage our yards is heating up across America, often pitting spouse vs. spouse or neighbor vs. neighbor. Some insist on playing it safe and avoiding toxic pesticides, while others refuse to wait through transitional periods, or pay extra for organic treatments. Does the health of the environment, as well as domestic life, hang in the balance?

Tip of the Day: Mow Your Grass Long
Longer blades discourage weeds and pests, retain moisture and promote healthy roots.
