Hello again everybody, today’s post is for all you Southern Ontario/Torontonians. Deep within Canada’s largest urban center lays the most wild river known to man. The Don River! If you don’t know the river I am talking about then google map it, the river is right beside the 404/DVP in Toronto.

Consumer awareness is emerging at an all time high. People are concerned about what they are putting into their body, where their products are coming from, and how their products are made. This is a great time to be a consumer and we can only hope that people continue to make ethical decisions that will force companies to make ethical decisions. One of the more predominant issues recently surrounding the news has been the amount of BPA in products, specifically baby products. Well I am here today to give another BPA free update.

Whats the biggest attraction you have ever seen? Mine would have to be the world’s largest nickel in Sudbury. Those roadside attractions that claim to be the world’s biggest always give me a bit of a chuckle, like the worlds largest ball of twine. All these attractions are funny but what about the worlds largest solar farm? Thats right, green/eco tourism is coming!

Okay so there are lots of companies that are making strides to become eco-friendly. Very often it is a thin line between “greenwashing” and actual improvements but that is a different story all together. So I’m doing my usual perusing around the web today and I come across a story that almost knocks me off my feet, Nike is the most eco-friendly practicing business!

So guess what? Mothers Day is this Sunday, May 11th! Yup, but don’t worry if you forgot and haven’t got your adoring mother a gift yet. I have you covered. Now clearly some of the best gifts you can give your mother will not cost you a dime. However if you are willing to purchase something, why not purchase something she is going to love and its not going to have a negative impact on the environment either?

It’s an age old discussion regarding climate change and the big reason for why many countries are so hesitant to hop on the “green train”, what will the economic impacts be of going green? A tough debate and not easily solved. Now I am no economics major, I have my back ground in micro and macro, but the site I am presenting to you expresses the situation in a very user friendly way.

There is no doubt that sustainability has to be achievable for the masses. In order for this world to become sustainable, people of all places and income levels need to have the option of sustainability available to them and that means big box stores need to largely get involved. Quite a few times now we have talk about Wal-Mart and their “green” efforts, but today I bear news about another big box store, Target.

A big problem in todays society is what to do with the “things” we don’t need or want anymore. Now this can be brought down to a societal or individual viewpoint where either the individual is responsible for the disposal of these “things” or society is. In most of North America, someone will come and pick up what you don’t need or want anymore and dispose of it for you. However, what about when those “things” are still perfectly good and it would just be a waste to get rid of them? I present to you Freecycle…

So I guess you couldn’t really call this news, because the company is so old, but when was the last time you went to the Simple Shoes’ website, if ever? So give me a bit of a break there. I’ve always known that Simple Shoes was progressively becoming an eco-company, but until today, I really had no idea.

Not too often do we talk about contests here at Ecologicliving.com but the other day I came across a pretty neat contest that had some great prizes for the environment and was promoting an eco-friendly product at the same time. Win, win, right?

Late last week Health Canada issued their report on Bisphenol A (BPA) in consumer products, most notably in infant and children’s products.
