For more than seven months, the nation’s top public health agency has blocked the publication of an exhaustive federal study of environmental hazards in the eight Great Lakes states, reportedly because it contains such potentially “alarming information” as evidence of elevated infant mortality and cancer rates.

One untapped renewable resource is wind power on the Great Lakes. A Canadian-government commissioned study in 2005 showed thatthere's enough wind on the Great Lakes to generate up to 47,000 megawatts of electricity. That's almost five times the capacity of Ontario's aging nuclear stations.

The North American Free Trade Agreement has always been rather contentious but now it appears the Washington Lobbyists are trying back room politics to force Canada to sell them bulk fresh water. Thanks to NAFTA, Canada can't say no.
