Eco-consciousness was a dominant theme throughout this event. The concerns are now common knowledge, and solutions are surprisingly revealed through grass root efforts.

Gordon Bennett builds each robot from items found primarily in landfills. The sculptures range from 14″ to 25″ and cost anywhere from $950 to $6,000. Certainly for that price, these were not meant to be toys. The robots offer a new way to recycle old “junk” and certainly make good conversation starters.

Slate's Daniel Engber worries about (ahem) overkill on viewing the military’s latest bizarre gizmos, now on display at the DARPATech Conference in Anaheim. Engber notes there is a plethora, if not a surfeit, of robotics technology now enabling the military to do their fighting remotely. And, the new kid on this block is ‘StickyBot’, a robotic lizard that appears to already incorporate the latest nano research on gecko feet.
